Overall Series Structure

Series Point Structure Philosophy

The series point structure will be managed and updated in a public digital document by Pieter and Findlay within 48 hours after each event has been completed. The series point structure is designed to reward both good play in the form of consistent high placement and regular attendance. It is for this reason the top 14 slots will be awarded to top players as per the algorithm below and the final 2 slots will be awarded as wildcards encouraging fringe competitive players to develop and grow.

Top 14 Invitational Slots

This meets the balance of encouraging support for the series and the stores. It is for this reason the structure has been designed as follows.

Attending a series event scores a player 1 attendance point.

Placing 1st in a series event scores a player 8 performance points.

Placing 2nd in a series event scores a player 6 performance points.

Placing 3rd/4th in a series event scores a player 4 performance points.

Placing 5th to 8th in a series event scores a player 2 performance points.

Final points are calculated as follows.

Total Attendance Points + 4 of the best performance points finishes = Total Points

e.g. Player A attends 7 events, places 5th, 4th, 8th, 16th, 2nd, 7th, 10th

Attendance points = 7 attendance points

Performance Points = 2, 4, 2, 0, 6, 2, 0 → Best 4 = 6 + 4 + 2 + 2 = 14 performance points

Total Points = 7 + 14 = 21 Points

Based on this structure, the 14 players with the highest points will gain an invite to the invitational. Tiebreakers will be determined by the following algorithm:

Total Points (as defined above); Attendance Points; Total Series Match Points (as per MTR definition).

Invitational Wildcard Slots (Places 15 and 16)

The final 2 slots for the invitational shall be wildcard invites. As discussed prior, these are designed to get 2 underdog competitors involved and encourage attendance and growth to fringe competitor players. They will be awarded to players with the following unique series outcomes:

Gold Wildcard (15th Place)

  1. A player not included in the top 14 players.
  2. Of this set, the player with the greatest number of attendance points.

In the event of a tie, the player with the greater match points shall be selected followed by the fewer event drops.

Silver Wildcard (16th Place)

  1. A player not included in the top 14 players.
  2. A player who has never had a playoff finish for the duration of the series (cut to top 4 or cut to top 8).
  3. A player who has never dropped from a series event during the swiss rounds.
  4. Of this set, the player with the greatest number of attendance points.

In the event of a tie, the player with the greater match points shall be selected.
