Event Series Overall Outline
We propose running a number of Competitive REL events in a series structure building towards a final invitational event. These events will take place at different stores across Gauteng and the format for each will be chosen by the store in advance with the intention to best cater to their regular player base.
Each event will be head judged by a certified L2 the cost of which will be accommodated in the entry fee from players and a small fixed percentage of the remainder will be set aside to build the invitational prize support at the end of the season.
Each event will award prizes from the remainder of the entry fees in accordance with the standardised weighting described later within this document. The prize support from stores will be their choice of store credit, sealed boosters from the latest standard set or premium set or (with prior arrangement) magic accessories including but not limited to sleeves and deckboxes.
Any product used as prize support will be costed at that store’s standard shelf price. Store revenue is intended to occur from markup on prize support product, store credit use and potential additional sales from increased foot traffic.
At the end of each event, points will be awards for final standings and attendance. These will be used to determine entry to the final invitational. The final invitational event will consist of 16 players and a double elimination structure will be used. A certified L2 judge will oversee this and the cost will be taken from the invitational fund. The prizes for this invitational event will be in the form of cash.
For practical conceptualisation purposes a breakdown is shown below:
Typical Individual Event Financial Breakdown
Assumed 16 player attendance (Assumption is conservative based on EMCQ average attendance – this is done to demonstrate viability even at low attendance).
Item Unit Cost Quantity Unit Subtotal Running Total
Entrance R300 x16 +R4800 R4800
Judge Cost R800 x1 -R800 R4000
Invitational Fund 10% of Remainder -R400 R3600
Prize Support (value on which markup is made by store) = R3600 (or R225 contribution per player)
Typical Top 8 Support
Placement Prize Support Value Value Relative to Entry
1st place R1080 +R780
2nd place R580 ea +R280
3rd/4th place R430 ea +R130
5th to 8th place R180 ea -R120
Draw Prizes Total of R360
Example Invitational Financial Breakdown
Being conservative to show viability even with low attendance here it is assumed 16 players per series event.

Invitational Fund R400 x8 +R3200 R3200
Judge Cost R800 x1 -R800 R2400
Top 2 Prize Support = R2400
